To Catch a Thief

Kevin Whited of INDYCOG

Kevin Whited of INDYCOG is on a mission to make Indy a better biking city. One path toward that – setting up a bike registry system. To make this happen, INDYCOG initially started working with two separate groups "Bike Index" and "Stolen Bike Registry," one place to register your bike, another to report a theft. Just after the Nice Grant announcements, the two entities merged. One stop shop!

This was an issue near and dear to our hearts. We have several team members who regularly bike to work, and we've have three bicycles stolen from our office in the last couple of years. (Two were taken during one fell swoop in the middle of the night while we were working on 24 Hour Web Project with Partners in Housing in 2013). Stolen bikes = sadness.

The system is now up and running. We had a quick chat with Kevin and he says they're using the colder months to create some collateral and start spreading the word about registering your bike before spring hits, and inevitably thefts spike. If you haven't done so, you can go here to register your bike, or to report it stolen. We hope you never need it for that, but we're glad it's there for all of us, just in case.
